Souter Lighthouse NZ4064 : Souter Lighthouse from the East is visible about 16 miles across the sea from Newbiggin. It is 25 m high and sits on cliffs which are themselves 25 m above sea level, and is seen here from Newbiggin Point. From sea level, however, the 12 m high 'hill' of water leaves only the top half of the lighthouse itself visible NZ4064 : Observe the curvature of the Earth from Newbiggin-by-the-Sea. Permanent examples of the 'ship disappearing over the horizon' using recognisable structures occur elsewhere NT1379 : Conclusive proof that the earth is round!.
