Nottingham tram track renewal, Fletcher Gate curve

The curve on the tramway from Victoria Street into Fletcher Gate is reputed to be the sharpest tramway curve in Europe, which inevitably leads to a higher rate of wear than on other parts of the network. It has been in place since the tramway was opened in 2004, and 17 years represents a very good life under the circumstances.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, resulting in lower passenger use, the programmed work for the summer was brought forward to the end of April, the closure planned to last from April 29th to May 10th

Renewal of the track has meant that tram services have been split into two sections, with trams on the Clifton and Toton sections terminating at Nottingham Station, and those on the Hucknall and Phoenix Park routes terminating at the Old Market Square. On the southern section spare trams for enhanced peak period frequencies are parked on the viaduct north of the Nottingham Station stop, and a service spare for maintenance is held in the siding at Wilford Lane.
