Warkworth Bridge Gatehouse
Warkworth Bridge Gatehouse
Warkworth Bridge Tower is located at the southern end of NU2406 : Warkworth Bridge. It is a rare example of a late fourteenth century stone gatehouse, built to fortify the bridge. A round headed gate-passage runs through the square lower storey but unfortunately, the upper storey is in ruins. The tower was used as the local gaol during the nineteenth century.

Like the bridge, the gatehouse is a Scheduled Ancient Monument (List Entry Number: 1020741 LinkExternal link ) and a Grade II Listed Building (List Entry Number: 1154927 LinkExternal link Historic England).
