SJ5117 : A killing field

taken 19 years ago, near to Battlefield, Shropshire, England

A killing field
A killing field
In 1403 this was the site of the battle between Henry IV & Harry Percy aka Hotspur. The battle is mentioned by Wm Shakespeare in his play Henry IV part 1 (or it could be part 2). Hotspur's forces were located on the ridge in the centre & left of the picture. Hotspur was killed in the battle & his corpse later quartered in the centre of Shrewsbury - a monument now marks that site.
