Orton Scar path
This is CROW Access Land, so people can wander at will, and footpaths form where they find convenient routes. This one seems to be a usage path of ascent along the top of Orton Scar, forming a route to Beacon Hill just to the south behind the photographer (and therefore also a convenient route from the monument to get into the next square for a quick photograph). The valley in the distance is formed by Lyvennet Beck, rising from various springs at the northern edge of the limestones which form Great Asby Scar and Crosby Ravensworth Fell.
