SD6597 : Descending to Long Rigg Beck

taken 4 years ago, 3 km from Lowgill, Cumbria, England

Descending to Long Rigg Beck
Descending to Long Rigg Beck
From the bridleway descending White Fell, a return to parking at Fairmile Gate is best effected by cutting down towards Long Rigg Beck, then crossing it and reascending by sheep paths to a col north of Brown Moor. Rather vaguer sheep paths guide us down to an easy crossing below the heather-clad slopes of Long Rigg, ahead, and the rather grassier slopes of White Fell to the right. The confluence with Long Rigg Gill is a little out of sight to the left of the view. At the head of this valley, the col of Windscarth Wyke precedes the sunlit summit of Breaks Head which we crossed earlier on our walk.
