Statfold Barn Railway - mind the gap
Statfold Barn Railway - mind the gap
Two locomotives standing in Statfold Junction Station. There is quite a step from the footplate to the platform. In front is Cegin, an 0-4-0WT by Andrew Barclay of Kilmarnock and built in 1931 as works number 1991. Originally used as a contractor's locomotive for the construction of Burnhope Reservoir in Weardale, it was later used at the slate quarry at Penrhyn until 1965. It was then exported to the USA and then to Puerto Rico before repatriation in 2016. This was the first time I had seen this beautifully restored well tank locomotive.

Behind is Marchlyn, an 0-4-0T built by Avonside of Bristol in 1933 as number 2067. Like Cegin, this was initially used on the construction of Burnhope Reservoir and then at Penrhyn Slate Quarries. In 1965 it was exported to the USA and was repatriated for restoration in 2011.

They made a fine pairing and worked together all day.
