Walls, Harbottle Castle
Walls, Harbottle Castle
The castle, which was started some time after 1157, was reconstructed in stone during the 13th century and extensively rebuilt in 1541. The earliest work is a motte and bailey castle, and is said to be the finest medieval earthwork in Northumberland. The ruins are Grade I Listed. In the background lie the rounded Cheviot Hills.
