Fort Belan

Built in 1775 to guard the entrance to the Menai Strait from raiding American privateers. In the 1820s it became a private fort for the Wynn family. In World War II it housed the Home Guard. In 1992 it became a base for marine biology exploration. Later it housed a maritime museum and pottery. Currently it has been re-purposed as a self-catering holiday complex.
