SK7604 : Old railway bridge, Loddington Road

taken 17 days ago, near to Halstead, Leicestershire, Great Britain

Old railway bridge, Loddington Road
Old railway bridge, Loddington Road
The line crossed was built as the Great Northern and London and North Western Joint Railway, opened here in 1879, it closed to scheduled passenger services in 1953, but special trains and freight used it until 1963. It then closed completely as a through route. The line is in a deep cutting here, thoroughly overgrown with nothing to see over the parapets, at least in summer.
