SK3587 : Bears of Sheffield: #20 Nano Bear
taken 5 years ago, near to Sheffield, England

Artist Roanna Wells is continually interested in the effects of repetition through the study of multiples – whether this is the visual effect of the marks created, or the meditative mindset through which the work is made. This exploration is carried out through detailed mark making processes, usually very ordered and regimented in structure, with a quiet and delicate aesthetic, but often with a depth of concept in the subject matter and inspiration.
You can see her signature practice carried out in the design for Nano Bear. Named as a reference the gold nanoparticles used in medicine that she has used as inspiration. The Bear design quite literally glitters, with it’s white base, covered in repetitive golden marks.
Bears of Sheffield is a public arts exhibition celebrating Sheffield and its surrounding area. Coordinated by The Children's Hospital Charity, the trail brings together businesses, communities, artists and schools whilst supporting Sheffield Children’s Hospital. The Bears have been brought to life by artists of all ages, both professional and amateur, and they arrived in the city in July 2021.
The Bears of Sheffield showcases 60 large and 100 little bear sculptures in both indoor and outdoor locations.
The bears are raising funds through sponsorship and donations to help transform the Cancer and Leukaemia ward at Sheffield Children’s Hospital.
