SK3587 : Bears of Sheffield: #22 Bear Impressions
taken 4 years ago, near to Sheffield, England

Kate Owens’ most recent work combines block printing with dance and is reflected in the design of her Bear sculpture Bear Impressions. The design of the Bear is made using two childhood objects: a teddy bear and a snack known as a Yo Yo Bear.
As malleable objects, they can be dipped into paint and pressed onto the sculpture’s hard surface to create an impression. Repeated and overlapped, this simple ‘block printing’ technique creates a loose pattern whose colours relate to the actual shades of the objects used to make the print – a white teddy and a strawberry snack.
Bears of Sheffield is a public arts exhibition celebrating Sheffield and its surrounding area. Coordinated by The Children's Hospital Charity, the trail brings together businesses, communities, artists and schools whilst supporting Sheffield Children’s Hospital. The Bears have been brought to life by artists of all ages, both professional and amateur, and they arrived in the city in July 2021.
The Bears of Sheffield showcases 60 large and 100 little bear sculptures in both indoor and outdoor locations.
The bears are raising funds through sponsorship and donations to help transform the Cancer and Leukaemia ward at Sheffield Children’s Hospital.
