Spennithorne and Harmby are neighbouring villages; Spennithorne has the Parish Church while Harmby has the Methodist Chapel and Village Hall and Sports Ground. Spennithorne has a population of just under 200 residents although not everyone is a permanent resident. Harmby is the adjacent village with just under 400 residents.

The war memorial is situated in the churchyard outside the Church of St Michael and All Angels. It is the form of a Maltese cross with a wreath in relief on its face. The cross is mounted on a tapering shaft that stands on a square base and plinth. The inscription on the plinth reads:
"Erected by the Inhabitants of Spennithorne and Harmby in memory of the men from the parish who gave their lives in the Great War. For King and Country".
