Humber Estuary
Part of the foreshore abutting Victoria Dock Village, Kingston upon Hull, is covered by an uneven, piecemeal layer of what would appear to be iron, evidenced by orange traces of ferric oxide. It is possible that the iron is waste material from Earle's Shipbuilding & Engineering Yard, that was based at the Humber Bank immediately to the north thereof between 1853 and 1932. In the background:together with development partner Associated British Ports, Siemens Gamesa is investing in offshore wind turbine production at Alexandra Dock.

In 2011, Siemens Gamesa and Associated British Ports signed a memorandum of understanding concerning the construction of a wind energy machine manufacturing plant at Alexandra Dock. The factory was formally inaugurated on 1 December 2016. Siemens Gamesa submitted plans in February 2021 to double the size of its wind turbine blade manufacturing facility in the city in a move that could support the creation of hundreds of jobs.
