Tynemouth Outdoor Swimming Pool is at the southern end of Long Sands beach. A concrete, rectangular, tidal salt-water swimming pool, it opened on 30 May 1925. It was a popular attraction until the 1960s, when it started to fall out of favour. It was finally closed in 1991.
In 1996 North Tyneside Council used rubble from demolished ancillary buildings to try to create an artificial rock pool. This hasn't proved successful in attracting marine wildlife.
