TQ2580 : Notting Hill Gate Underground station, London

taken 3 years ago, near to Kensington, Kensington And Chelsea, England

Notting Hill Gate Underground station, London
Notting Hill Gate Underground station, London
Opened in 1868 by the Metropolitan Railway on its line from Edgware Road to Gloucester Road, this is now part of London Underground's District and Circle lines. Further underground, the Central Railway opened its platforms in 1900, which is now the Central Line.
View south under the fine train shed. Some of the Metropolitan's Underground stations retain their fine buildings (see TQ2678 : Gloucester Road Underground station, London for example) but have lost their original train sheds. Notting Hill Gate has lost its original street-level buildings, but the train shed is still intact.
