Norwich - Arch - remains of Anchorite House, Whitefriars
This arch is all that remains of an Anchorite House which belonged to the Whitefriars Monastery founded by Philip de Cougate c. 1256. The arch itself dates from the mid C14th. The stone arch has 3 orders (concentric mouldings).
A circular blue plaque attached to it says "Lady Eleanor Talbot (Lady Butler) c.1436-1468 benfactress and 'conversa' of the Whitefriars was buried here in the Carmelite Priory Church :: Richard III Society 1999" (Note: a 'conversa' is someone who has converted from one faith to another.)
The arch is EH Grade II listed LinkExternal link
