taken 5 years ago, near to Old Somerby, Lincolnshire, England

The Cross Britain Way is a 279 mile, east-west trail across England and Wales, created to help raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. Starting at Boston (where the original Macmillan Way starts), it crosses the Fens, the Vale of Belvoir, the Leicestershire/Nottinghamshire Wolds, the National Forest, Cannock Chase, East Shropshire along the Iron Bridge Gorge, the Shropshire Hills, the hills of mid Wales, the Berwyn Mountains, and Snowdonia National Park, to its end at Barmouth. "However, the Definitive Maps [of Public Rights of Way] are full of anomalies where ‘dead end’ public rights of way stop for no apparent reason. This frequently occurs at parish boundaries, where adjacent parish councils took a different approach to what they considered to be a public right of way when the Definitive Maps were being first drafted [in the 1950s]." (Ref.: Technical Standard ‐ Public rights of way. Document no.: HS2‐HS2‐HW‐STD‐000‐000002).
The Ramblers Association is leading efforts to ensure that missing historic rights of way are added to the Definitive Map before the cut-off date of 2026 Link
