Walton Farm chambered cairn
See NS3678 : Walton Farm chambered cairn for the main description.
The large upright stone is set in a gently-sloping field that gives a view of the River Clyde to the south-west; the stone marks the site of a chambered cairn (an ancient stone-built site which had a burial chamber inside).
This grave was probably constructed in the latter part of the Stone Age. When the site was excavated in 1954, fifty quartz pebbles were found, as well as a polished stone axe-head, which is now in a museum.
The information in the previous paragraph is from section 17 of "Archaeology Around Glasgow" (Susan Hothersall, 2007), which briefly mentions the site after discussing the NS3779 : Ancient hill-fort on Carman Hill. Aside from that, I know of no other comments on Walton Farm chambered cairn, other than those in the Canmore database (for a link to the relevant Canmore entry, see the end-note).
