Priory Gatehouse, Cartmel
Priory Gatehouse, Cartmel
A 14th century gatehouse which was used as the seat and courthouse for the manor until its function changed to a school house in 1624. It was the main entrance to Cartmel Priory. In front of the gatehouse is a stone obelisk on the site of a medieval preaching cross and to the right of it a slab, the "fish slab", where fish was sold.
