On the pier at Ryde – 1978
A train composed of the first generation of ex-London Underground stock to arrive on the island, dating from before World War II. It consists of a 4-VEC and a 3-TIS (later Class 485 and 486 respectively) and is heading towards the Pier Head. At that time both tracks were in use, but more recently the near track has become disused, the far tack being used in both directions.
This precise view is no longer available. It was taken from what was at the time the end of the southbound platform of Esplanade Station, since substantially shortened, and latterly no longer in use.
