What was originally a generously proportioned porte-cochere, built in 1860 for the North Eastern Railway as an addition to the 1840s station buildings, has been glazed in more recently to form an annexe to the station concourse. The conversion was described as 'new' in 2016 NZ2463 : New glazed Portico of Newcastle Central Station. It is included in the grade I listing of the station buildings (list entry 1355291).
Newcastle Central Station

Newcastle Central Station opened in 1850 for the York, Newcastle and Berwick Railway Company. It is a Grade I listed building. LinkExternal link . The station is situated on the East Coast Main Line, but a variety of rail companies run services across the country.
