Former Manchester Docks - Lightwaves 2021
Looking across the Manchester Ship Canal from Trafford Wharf towards MediaCityUK. The large globe in front of the MediaCityUK buildings is a 10-metre-diameter digital art installation by UK artist Luke Jerram featuring high tech NASA imagery. Named “Floating Earth”, it has been installed in North Bay (formerly part of No 10 Dock) for the 2021 Lightwaves Festival.

Lightwaves claims to be the UK’s largest free outdoor digital art light show. The annual festival, hosted by Quays Culture, showcases an eclectic programme of digital light art, taking over public spaces in Salford Quays and MediaCityUK each December. Each year, Lightwaves features new and exclusively commissioned digital art displays alongside tableaux borrowed from the Blackpool Illuminations.
