Lightwaves 2021, The Floating Earth
The “Floating Earth” is a digital art installation created by UK artist Luke Jerram from 1200dpi detailed NASA imagery of the Earth’s surface. Measuring 10 metres in diameter, it has been installed in North Bay (formerly part of Manchester’s No 10 Dock) for the 2021 Lightwaves Festival.

Lightwaves claims to be the UK’s largest free outdoor digital art light show. The annual festival, hosted by Quays Culture, showcases an eclectic programme of digital light art, taking over public spaces in Salford Quays and MediaCityUK each December. Each year, Lightwaves features new and exclusively commissioned digital art displays alongside tableaux borrowed from the Blackpool Illuminations.
