ST2224 : Green Flag in Vivary Park
taken 11 months ago, near to Taunton, Somerset, Great Britain

Vivary Park, with an area of 7.5ha, is immediately south of Taunton town centre. Its name derives from 'vivarium', Latin for any type of enclosure for rearing animals, in this case probably the fish pond of the medieval priory and castle. The local council bought the site in 1894, the park opened in 1895. The fountain at its centre was added in 1907 as a memorial to the late Queen Victoria. In 1924 the park was extended to include part of the garden of Wilton House. The park as a whole is not statutorily listed, but the entrance gates, bandstand, fountain and war memorial are all grade II listed structures. Source: Link
