Disused Railway
Disused Railway
The former railway that served the cement works at Eastgate, disused since 1992, seen crossing the River Wear east of Stanhope. The railway originially ran as far as Wearhead, later truncated to the cement works at Eastgate. The Weardale Railway now operates the line, though their current terminus is at Stanhope. Ambitions remain to extend Weardale Railway operations along this section to Eastgate.
