Barfrestone 12th century church
Church of St Nicholas, Barfreston, Kent
Late 12th century, with much intricate carving still intact, with some restoration work undertaken around 1840 under the architect and historian R. Hussey. Special features include the carving in the spokes of the wheel-window in the east gable, the carved semi-circular tympanum over the south doorway, and the large array of carved corbels stretching along the tops of the outer walls just below roof level.
