Wildlife Hat Hotel

One of the giant hats on the Hats Off To Denton Sculpture Trail.

Located at Crownpoint North, the Wildlife Hat Hotel is inspired by the beauty of nature and wildlife. The hat is buzzing with life, from the smallest of insects to birds and frogs - all animals are welcome here. This hat acts as a reminder of the need to provide safe spaces for nature to preserve it for future generations. It was designed by Adam Pekr who has been airbrushing since he was 18, having always created art growing up. He primarily creates wall murals but more recently has been designing and airbrushing sculptures for art trails including two of the bee sculptures for Bee in the City.

Hats Off To Denton Sculpture Trail

Hats Off To Denton Sculpture Trail comprised 5 giant hats and 10 community hats hidden around Denton Town Centre. Inspired by the town’s hatting heritage they were on display from 19th February to 13th March 2022.

Hats Off to Denton was organised by Tameside Culture, part of Tameside Council and funded from the England European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) as part of the Welcome Back Fund.

Denton Free Library and Technical School

Denton Lads' club was founded in a row of cottages on Peel Street. Needing enlarged premises a new building was built in front of the cottages and became the south wing of the final building. Councillor Edwin Oldham JP laid the foundation stone of the extension, the north wing, which was to house the library, on the 27 February 1897. On completion of the extension and other alterations, William Mather MP opened the new Free Library and Technical School on the 18 January 1900. To commemorate the Festival of Britain in 1951, the hall on the ground floor of the south wing was reconstructed and named the Festival Hall. For more details see LinkExternal link

The Festival Hall is currently used as an events venue.

Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council announced "Denton Library is to relocate to Denton Town Hall as part of a wider programme to reduce the number and costs of Council-owned buildings. Tameside Council's priority is to save services over buildings in its challenge to meet £142m Government funding cuts to its budget. Denton library is moving as part of this strategy and will in fact be going back to its original roots as the service started life in a room in the town hall in 1888. To enable this work to be done the current library facility will close completely on Saturday 6 December 2014 at 3.00pm and re-open on Monday 5 January 2015 in the town hall."

The library service has now moved SJ9295 : Entrance to Denton Town Hall/Library/Police Point.
