Round Tree Bridge pillar detail
The top of one of two red sandstone pillars at the foot of Bank Street Brae, see NT4936 : Bank Street, Galashiels, that were restored in 2000. This panel displays the town's Coat of Arms with a fox reaching up to eat plums from a tree, with the motto "sovre plvms" or soor plums. This refers to an incident in 1337 when a party of English soldiers, while picking and eating wild plums, were routed by local men.
