Boundary between coombe deposits and chalk at Birling Gap
Birling Gap is a hamlet situated at the eastern end of the Seven Sisters cliffs in East Sussex. It lies at the mouth of a dry valley. Geotechnically the area is characterized by the presence of a Devensian paleovalley developed in a shallow syncline within the Seaford Chalk Formation.
This east-southwest looking photo shows the boundary between the more sandy coloured coombe deposits to the west and the white Upper Chalk to the east.
