"Duchess of Sutherland" at Langwathby
The Coronation Class 6233 “Duchess of Sutherland” was built at Crewe in 1938 for the London Midland Scottish Railway to handle express passenger services. She was withdrawn by British Rail in 1964 when she became a star attraction at Butlin’s Holiday Camp at Ayr. The Duchess was fully restored for mainline operation in 2001. Photographed at Langwathby on her way to Carlisle in March 2022.
