Footpath off Ermine Street (High Dike)
The Roman road, on its straight run north towards Ancaster, forms the parish boundary. The footpath from Welby (right) ends here, with no continuation on the left side of the road.

Dead end public rights of way
"However, the Definitive Maps [of Public Rights of Way] are full of anomalies where ‘dead end’ public rights of way stop for no apparent reason. This frequently occurs at parish boundaries, where adjacent parish councils took a different approach to what they considered to be a public right of way when the Definitive Maps were being first drafted [in the 1950s]."
