Toad warning sign
The lane between The Kettle Sings and the Colwall Road is one of the 670 Department for Transport registered toad crossing points in the UK. Every spring, tens of thousands of amphibians are killed by cars as they cross roads to breed in their ancestral breeding ponds. Toad patrollers erect the signs at each end of this stretch in the breeding season, then go to work on spring evenings, rescuing toads and carrying them across the road, recording vital information as they go.
