Atlantic Conveyor on the Severn Valley Railway
The locomotive is Class 40 No. 40 106, named Atlantic Conveyor. It was built in 1960 by Robert Stephenson & Hawthorns Ltd. The configuration is 1Co-Co1 and it weighs 135 tons. A total of 200 were built, mostly at the Vulcan foundry (180). They had a 2000 brake horsepower English Electric 16SVT MkII diesel engine supplying DC traction motors. It is a very impressive machine and was capable of 90 mph. This view is from the access track to Droppingwells Farm. Extensive new fencing has changed access in this area and this was a view I had not tried before as I could not reach the photographers' favourite spot near the signal.
