B8108 : Dungloe Triangulation Pillar

taken 2 years ago, 5 km ESE of Dunglow, Co Donegal, Ireland

Dungloe Triangulation Pillar
Dungloe Triangulation Pillar
An unusual trig pillar - a small concrete block around 12" high set into bedrock close to the R252 a few miles SE of Dungloe in Donegal. On top is a hinged metal cap bearing the initials OS and inside is a brass bolt of around 1" in diameter (if visiting, bring a small screwdriver to open the metal cap). It is unusually low, with poor sight lines to surrounding areas.

See listing on T:UK at LinkExternal link . For similar examples see W7970 : Ordnance Survey Ireland triangulation bolt, H0115 : Slieve Anierin summit - Ordnance Survey marker (trig point) and G9489 : Croaghgorm: The trig point.
