Looking towards a train that is just arriving into platform 1 from beside the level crossing. The train is the 1336 Leeds to York via Harrogate service (2C16) formed of 170457. Currently there is a mostly half hour service in each direction along the line.

Poppleton station serves the suburban village of Upper Poppleton in the York district. It is located on the Harrogate Line 3 miles west of York and is operated by Northern who provide all passenger train services. The station opened in 1848.

The Harrogate Line is a rail line through parts of North Yorkshire and the West Yorkshire Metro area connecting Leeds to York by way of Harrogate and Knaresborough. The service is operated by Northern Rail, with a few additional workings by East Coast. Metro's bus and rail MetroCard ticket is available for journeys between Leeds and Harrogate. The line opened in 1848.
