The lake at Lullingstone Castle
The lake at Lullingstone Castle
The estate at Lullingstone dates back to Domesday. The present Manor House and Gatehouse were built in 1497 and have been home to the same family ever since. Both Henry VIIIth and Queen Anne were regular visitors. The parish church of St Botolph within the grounds is of Norman origin and contains some of the oldest stained glass windows in the country.

The World Garden of Plants contains some 8,000 plant species planted in their respective countries of origin. The Hot & Spikey house contains some 1,000 cacti.

The lake was created by damming the River Darent. This view looks across the foot of the lake from near the Manor House.
