EMR Regional train at the former level crossing on Foxcovert Road, Werrington
This EMR Regional train was spotted passing the former level crossing on Foxcovert Road, which links Werrington on the northern periphery of Peterborough with the villages of Glinton and Peakirk. The former level crossing spans the railway line between Peterborough and Lincoln via Spalding and Sleaford.
The crossing was closed to motor traffic in the 1980s but remained accessible to pedestrians and cyclists via pedestrian gates. The footbridge seen in this image was opened in September 2014 in response to a long-running campaign by local residents following a fatal accident at the site in 2009. It includes ramps for cyclists as this route is heavily used by pupils from Werrington attending Arthur Mellows Village College in Glinton.
