The Mortimer Trail is a waymarked long-distance footpath, it runs between Ludlow Castle in Shropshire, and Kington in Herefordshire. It is 30 miles (48 km) in length.
Mortimer Forest is on the Shropshire and Herefordshire border and covers 1,000 hectares. Originally made up of ancient royal chases and deer parks, the forest today was largely planted by the Forestry Commission in the 1920s. It was named after the Mortimer Family, Norman Lords who held power over the region for about 300 years.
SO4972 : Towards High Vinnalls Maryknoll Valley is an OS creation. The deep defile in the Silurian limestone dipslope between Mary Knoll and High Vinnalls is usually called Sunny Gutter or if you are feeling posh: Sunny Dingle. It is well worth a visit.
