Walking the Weardale and Rookhope Railway
Walking the Weardale and Rookhope Railway
Having climbed the 160m high Rookhope Incline and started its gentle and steady descent, the old railway trackbed curves round to the east, heading for what is now the Waskerley Way on the coast-to-coast cycle route. The surface remains good and wide for another kilometre or so before dropping down to a narrow single track after a junction gives access to the public road which is probably a better option for all except cyclists who really, really wish to avoid traffic.
