Looking across Blackfriars to Hadrian's Tower
Looking across Blackfriars to Hadrian's Tower
Blackfriars was built in the 13th century and some of the original buildings still survive, as seen here across the other side of the grassed area. The ruins in the foreground are the foundations of the original friary church, demolished in the 16th century after Henry VIII's dissolution of the monasteries. Hadrian's Tower dominates the skyline. An 82m high apartment building of 26 stories opened in 2020.
