Curving road on south side of River Tees
The road is also a public footpath which in places passes through grassed fields where it's just a fairly thin trace; that contrasts with the north side path which is well walked and is the route of the Teesdale Way.
NZ1517 : Disused Railway Bridge near Gainford The Darlington to Barnard Castle line crossed the Tees twice just west of Gainford. This one (the further west) was known as the West Tees Bridge. A branch line to Forcett (from near Piercebridge) also crossed the Tees, just to the east of Gainford.
