The spit of land pointing towards the camera is Sron a' Mhoil, an easy spot for landing. Priest Island, the most south-westerly of the Summer Isles, is beyond on the right.
Gruinard Island :: NG9494

Uninhabited since the 1920s, Gruinard Island was requisitioned in 1942 for the war effort. It was chosen as the test site for bacterial warfare experiments using anthrax. Unfortunately, the research into decontamination was less successful that that into deployment, and the "Landing prohibited" signs remained until a concerted cleanup effort was made, and the island was returned to its owners in 1990.
