The Scottish Temperance Buildings, Belfast
The Scottish Temperance (later Scottish Mutual) Buildings, at the corner of Donegall Square South and Bedford Street, were built in 1904 to a design by Henry Seaver. The Dumfries sandstone structure does not sit too well amongst the surrounding buildings – more so now that many are from the late 20th century. This entrance is, perhaps, its best feature. The proposed Scottish Mutual hotel site, Belfast
An imposing sandstone, turreted structure at the corner of Donegall Square South and Bedford Street, the Scottish Temperance (later Scottish Mutual) Buildings were built in 1904 to a design by Henry Seaver and remain “as built”. It was reported (July 2013) that the intention is to convert the building into a hotel incorporating ground-floor bars and restaurants.
