St Mary's, Brook, Kent - the Chancel
St Mary's, Brook, Kent - the Chancel
The Church of St Mary in the village of Brook in Kent.
The main structure of the church dates from between 1070 and 1120, and the wall paintings here in the chancel date from about 1280.

The wall-painting colours have changed and faded with the passing of the centuries, and between the time of the Reformation and late Victorian times were whitewashed over; what are now blacks and browns were once bright colours and gold. Much care has been taken in recent times to at least maintain and protect them. The lancet-style east window in the centre has been added or enlarged at some time, thus causing destruction of the central parts of the wall-painting roundel designs.
