Cyclist tunnel under the Tyne
Cyclist tunnel under the Tyne
The twin cyclist and pedestrian tunnels under the Tyne linking Jarrow and Wallsend was opened in 1951. After more than half a century of neglect it was closed for minor repairs in 2013. The minor repairs turned into major refurbishment and the work was not completed and the tunnels not reopened until 2019. This image predates the closure and refurbishment.
