The mighty but ruined gatehouse of Dunstanburgh Castle pokes jaggedly skyward. This is as close as we got, as the EH warden informed us we were too late to enter (be warned, last entry is an hour before closing time).
Dunstanburgh Castle

Dunstanburgh is a superbly located castle on an outcrop of the Whin Sill.
