Story starts 6 month railway erosion protection work on River Tyne
"Network Rail is investing £3.1M to reinstate a footpath and provide erosion protection for a key rail route in the North East.
The six month scheme will see Story Contracting install rock armouring and reinstate the bank on the River Tyne between Wylam and Clara Vale to protect the Newcastle to Carlisle rail line.
After placement of the rock armouring, Story will use excavators to place new material to form the river bank.
Completion of the work will allow a footpath along side the railway line – The Keelman’s Way – to reopen. The footpath was shut in February this year after cracks appeared in the path before route collapsed into the river, putting the railway line at risk from further erosion."
