NZ0144 : Random barrier on the Waskerley Way

taken 2 years ago, 4 km W of Waskerley, County Durham, England

Random barrier on the Waskerley Way
Random barrier on the Waskerley Way
The Waskerley Way, part of the long distance Coast-to-Coast Cycle Route, meets roads and car parks at various places, and access for wide vehicles is prevented by locked gates. This one, however, is at a somewhat random location, not adjacent to any junction or access point (although the route intersects a track to Waskerley Reservoir, itself barred by locked gates, in a hundred metres or so). Since this is open moor and the dog is accompanying the cyclist ahead on a lead, the gate provides ample opportunity for daft animals to take a route the other side of the gate post leading to an abrupt halt.
