Heading east from Skaylock Hill
Having reached Parkhead, the Coast-to-Coast cyclist is mainly on old railway trackbeds all the way to the coast at Sunderland, and mostly with a gentle downhill gradient. There's a few metre of uphill to cross the shoulder of Skaylock Hill, then with tailwind assistance, we can relax for another five kilometre at least before the next brief bit of uphill. Without wheels, the dog doesn't get this luxury but has by now had enough exercise to be jogging alongside the bike without dragging her lead into the front wheel and causing distress. Just over a kilometre and a half ahead, the track becomes enclosed and free of livestock again, so the lead can be retired for a while.
